More than 33,000 cases of scams and fraud were reported across Peru in 2024—almost 25% more than the year before. And behind many of them is someone who trusted a familiar voice calling in a panic, urgently asking for money and making them feel there was no time to stop and think. That’s why the bank’s best advice is surprisingly simple: create a personal security question that only the people closest to you could answer. The more personal and unique the question, the harder it is for scammers to know or imitate—and the more protected people are. Because scammers can fake a phone number, invent an emergency and even clone a loved one’s voice, but they can’t fake the memories you share.
